Highest EU Court to decide on pricing of alcoholic drinks

Plans for a minimum price for alcohol in Scotland went before the highest court in matters of European Union law, in the latest stage of a lengthy legal battle over this matter of public health.  The hearing on the Scottish Government’s proposal for a minimum unit price of 50p took place at the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg.  Scotland is known to have a very poor relationship with alcohol.

Is deciding a regional political decision really an issue fro the European Courts, presumably the decision provided by this process will help identify the ability to pursue local democracy in matters of critical social issues and behaviours in the different regions. ….more
