The launch of the European Institute of Women’s Health (EIWH) Position Paper on Women and Dementia : Addressing the disproportionate burden of dementia on women will take place on 22 January 2019, in the European Parliament, in Brussels. The meeting will be chaired by Ms. Sirpa Pietikainen MEP.

The EIWH Women and Alzheimer Advisory Council will also be launched on this occasion.

The Position Paper looks at how disproportionately women are affected by Alzheimer’s disease (AD). It addresses the prevalence of AD, the societal cost of dementia, employment, carers, the policy response to dementia and EU research on dementia. The Paper ends with a series of policy recommendations that will be taken forward by the Women and Alzheimer Advisory Council.

There are a number of initiatives worldwide focussing on Women and Alzheimer and none in the EU. The EIWH Women and Alzheimer Advisory Council is looking at filling the gap and put Women and Alzheimer firmly on the EU health, social and research agenda.
