Maeve Cusack

Maeve Cusack is employed with the National Cancer Control Programme in Ireland as Surgical Oncology Programme Manager. She has extensive experience working in the health services both nationally and internationally. As Programme Manager for Surgical Oncology Maeve coordinates several programmes including the National Clinical Leads Network for Symptomatic Breast Disease (SBD).

In her previous role in the Irish National Screening Service (NSS) Maeve was responsible for the planning, development and implementation of the Screening/Health Promotion function and played an integral role in supporting population participation in the four national screening programmes. A key focus of this work was on the wider determinants of health and communicating screening messages to a diverse population. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team she played an integral role in supporting individuals to participate in the national screening programmes. She advised the NSS on strategy in relation to the best international evidence on interventions that promote participation and links with external national bodies from across the health care professions.

Maeve has been a board member of the European Institute of Women’s Health (EIWH) for the past 4 years and has contributed to several high level policy briefs and also presented to the European Council on the topic of national population-based cervical screening programmes. Maeve began her career as a nurse working in Cardiac Intensive Care Units. Her academic achievements include a degree in Psychology and a Masters in Primary Health Care.
