Women’s Brain Project – President and Junior Group Leader, Institute for Regenerative Medicine (IREM), University of Zurich
Maria Teresa is a neuroscientist and neuroimmunologist, with more than 10-year international research experience in the field of Alzheimer’s disease. She received her master in Pharmaceutical Chemistry in 2005 (University of Cagliari, Italy) and obtained a PhD in Pharmacology and Therapeutics at McGill University (Montreal, Canada), after a stage at the Center of Excellence for Drug Discovery of GlaxoSmith&Kline (Harlow, England). Since 2011 she is a postdoctoral fellow at University of Zurich (Switzerland) and in 2013 she became group leader. Her academic research focuses on immunological underpinnings of Alzheimer’s disease pathology and precision medicine.
In August 2016 Maria Teresa co-founded a non-profit organization called ‘Women’s Brain Project’ (WBP), with the aim of advocating for women’s brain and mental health. Through scientific research, debate, public engagement and advocacy, WBP is raising awareness on the importance of considering sex and gender in the management of neurological and psychiatric disorders, in the context of a personalized neurology. The first international meeting of the Women’s Brain Project will be held in Lausanne on December 12th (www.womensbrainproject.com).
