Work Plan

The plan was developed to support EIWH’s work programme for 2018-2020.

Funding: To date EIWH has received funding from EU projects and a small amount from the commercial sector. The stop – start cycle of funding has hindered the development plans of EIWH.

Regular board meetings have identified the need for more sustainable resources for the organisation to continue and expand it’s remit and impact tackling disparities and inequalities in health and healthcare while striving to advocate y for the delivery of resourceful health policies that benefit all European citizens.

Over the last few years the EIWH has concentrated on building financial stability by identifying EU projects where funding could be secured. Our goal in 2018 is to increase and secure diverse funding so that we can go deeper and more consistently into areas such as providing good quality information through our;ongoing series of policy briefs on different disease areas; through our representation in the EMA Patient and Consumer working party to promote equitable access for women and their families to high quality safe and effective medicines and to promote more awareness of the need for safe use of medicines in pregnancy .

We highlighted the need for considering the; Promoting biological sex difference in the evaluation of risk/benefit of medicines.

We also campaigned for the integration of sex and gender differences in all EU and national research and public health policies; promoting vaccination across the lifespan as a mechanism for preventing infectious diseases.

Through our members we are building capacity and knowledge on health issues and how they affect women differently than men in all Member States, thus consolidating the work of the EIWH over the last 21 years.

EIWH’s mission is to:

Advocate for an equitable, gender-sensitive approach in health policy, research, treatment and care:

To promote health throughout the lifespan in women, men and children.
To ensure quality and equity in health policy, research treatment and care for all.
To draw policymakers attention to the obstacles that women in minority and socio-economic

disadvantaged groups face in obtaining a desirable health status.

To encourage individuals to play an active part in their own health management.
To promote gender-specific bio-medical and socio-economic research that addresses sex (biological and physiological) and gender-based differences to ensure access to quality treatment and care for women across their life span.

EIWH’s goal from 2018 to 2020 is to:

EIWH will work in particular to reduce the burden of chronic diseases by investing in prevention across the lifespan, tackling cross-cutting disease issues to and encourage healthy lifestyles and promoting the implementation of sex and gender in all policies.

With more financially stable resources we will focus on the following priorities between 2018 and 2020
